Skin Temperature

Meaning

Skin Temperature is the measure of the thermal state of the outermost layer of the human body, which is dynamically regulated by the autonomic nervous system and the circulatory system. Unlike core body temperature, which is tightly regulated for homeostasis, skin temperature fluctuates significantly in response to environmental conditions and internal physiological processes. Monitoring skin temperature, particularly during sleep, provides valuable non-invasive insight into circadian rhythm status, blood flow, and autonomic nervous system activity.
