Skeletal Strength

Meaning

Skeletal strength is a composite, biomechanical measure of the structural quality and density of bone tissue, reflecting the skeletal system’s ultimate capacity to resist fracture and deformation under various forms of mechanical stress. This critical physiological attribute is quantitatively determined by Bone Mineral Density (BMD), which represents the quantity of mineral content, and by bone microarchitecture, which relates to the structural quality and integrity of the bone matrix. Maintaining robust skeletal strength is a fundamental component of longevity and is profoundly influenced by endocrine status and physical loading throughout life.
