Skeletal Recovery

Meaning

The biological process of restoring and repairing bone tissue following a period of injury, stress, or pathological loss of bone mineral density, such as that seen in osteoporosis or after a fracture. This complex, multi-stage process involves the coordinated activity of osteoclasts, which resorb old bone, and osteoblasts, which form new bone matrix. Optimal skeletal recovery is critically dependent on a balanced hormonal environment, adequate nutritional support, and appropriate mechanical loading.
