Sim1 Neurons

Meaning

Sim1 Neurons are a critical population of neurons located predominantly within the Paraventricular Nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus, which is a key regulatory center for energy homeostasis and metabolism. These cells express the Single-minded 1 (Sim1) transcription factor, and their proper function is essential for regulating food intake and maintaining a healthy body weight. Deficiencies in Sim1 expression are strongly associated with early-onset, severe obesity in both humans and animal models.
