sICAM-1

Meaning

sICAM-1, or soluble Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1, is a circulating biomarker and a truncated, soluble form of the membrane-bound adhesion molecule ICAM-1, which is primarily expressed on endothelial cells and leukocytes. Elevated levels of sICAM-1 in the bloodstream are a clinical indicator of endothelial activation and systemic inflammation, reflecting underlying vascular damage or immune system dysregulation. In hormonal health, high sICAM-1 levels can signal an increased cardiovascular risk profile, often associated with chronic metabolic or hormonal imbalances.
