SIADH

Meaning

SIADH, or Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion, is a disorder of fluid and electrolyte balance characterized by the excessive, non-physiologically appropriate release of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) from the posterior pituitary or an ectopic source. This overproduction leads to water retention, resulting in a state of dilutional hyponatremia, where the serum sodium concentration is abnormally low. Careful clinical management is essential to prevent severe neurological complications from the electrolyte imbalance.
