Sex Steroid Deficiency

Meaning

Sex Steroid Deficiency is a clinical condition characterized by insufficient levels of circulating sex hormones, namely estrogens, progesterone, and androgens, due to impaired production by the gonads or disruption of the regulatory Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis. This hormonal insufficiency can lead to a spectrum of symptoms, including reduced bone density, vasomotor instability, sexual dysfunction, and changes in body composition. Diagnosis requires biochemical confirmation of low hormone levels alongside a correlating clinical presentation.
