Sex Hormone Deficiency

Meaning

A clinical state defined by the inadequate production or diminished biological action of the primary sex steroids, including testosterone, estradiol, or progesterone, resulting in circulating concentrations below the physiological reference range for a given age and sex. This insufficiency can stem from a primary failure of the gonads or a secondary failure due to dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. The resulting hormonal imbalance manifests in a diverse set of symptoms affecting reproductive capacity, bone density, metabolic health, and psychological well-being.
