Serum Creatinine

Meaning

A waste product generated from the normal breakdown of creatine phosphate in muscle tissue, which is released into the bloodstream and excreted by the kidneys. The concentration of creatinine measured in the blood serum is a routine clinical biomarker used primarily to estimate the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), which is a key measure of kidney function. In hormonal health, monitoring serum creatinine is important as certain therapies or underlying conditions can impact renal clearance and overall metabolic health.
