Sertoli Cell-Only Syndrome

Meaning

Sertoli Cell-Only Syndrome is a severe form of non-obstructive male infertility characterized by the complete or near-complete absence of germ cells, the precursors to sperm, within the seminiferous tubules of the testes. Histologically, the tubules contain only the supportive Sertoli cells and basement membrane, leading to the clinical finding of azoospermia, or the total absence of sperm in the ejaculate. It represents a primary failure of the spermatogenic process at the testicular level.
