SERM Treatment

Meaning

SERM Treatment refers to the clinical application of Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators, a class of synthetic drugs engineered to act selectively as either agonists or antagonists on estrogen receptors in a tissue-specific manner. These compounds are highly valued in endocrinology because they can block estrogen’s effects in one tissue, such as the breast, while simultaneously promoting beneficial estrogenic actions in another, such as the bone or liver. This targeted action is therapeutically used for conditions including osteoporosis, breast cancer prevention, and certain aspects of hormonal balance.
