SERM Efficacy

Meaning

The measurable degree to which a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) achieves its intended therapeutic effect by acting as either an agonist or antagonist on estrogen receptors in a tissue-specific manner. Efficacy is assessed by the SERM’s ability to selectively mitigate the symptoms of estrogen deficiency in one tissue, such as bone, while blocking unwanted proliferative effects in another, such as the breast or endometrium. This selective action is key to their clinical utility in hormonal health.
