Serial Biomarker Analysis

Meaning

The practice of measuring key physiological indicators, such as hormone levels or metabolic intermediates, at multiple, predetermined time points to establish temporal trends rather than relying on a single static measurement. This method is essential for understanding the dynamic nature of endocrine function and assessing the true efficacy of an intervention over time. It allows clinicians to map the kinetic response to therapy. We look for patterns of stability, fluctuation, or directional change within these data points. Static testing alone often fails to capture critical physiological variability.
