Senomorphics

Meaning

A novel class of pharmacological agents or compounds specifically designed to target and modify the phenotype of senescent cells, which are cells that have permanently ceased dividing but remain metabolically active and secrete pro-inflammatory molecules. Unlike senolytics, which aim to kill senescent cells, senomorphics work by altering the Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype (SASP), reducing the release of harmful inflammatory cytokines and proteases. This approach aims to mitigate the negative systemic effects of cellular aging and improve tissue function.
