Senolytics Research

Meaning

A specialized field of geroscience focused on the identification, development, and clinical application of therapeutic agents, known as senolytics, that selectively induce programmed cell death, or apoptosis, in senescent cells. The primary objective is to clear these dysfunctional, pro-inflammatory cells from tissues, thereby reducing the burden of the Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype (SASP). This targeted clearance is a novel strategy for mitigating age-related diseases and extending healthspan by improving tissue microenvironments.
