Senolytic Intervention

Meaning

A Senolytic Intervention is a clinical or pharmacological strategy specifically designed to selectively induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in senescent cells—cells that have ceased dividing but remain metabolically active and secrete pro-inflammatory molecules. These senescent cells accumulate with age and contribute significantly to chronic inflammation, tissue dysfunction, and the pathology of numerous age-related diseases. The goal of this intervention is to clear this toxic cellular burden, thereby rejuvenating tissue microenvironments and improving organ function.
