Senolytic Compounds

Meaning

A class of therapeutic agents, either naturally derived or synthetic, that selectively induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in senescent cells. Senescent cells are dysfunctional cells that accumulate with age and secrete pro-inflammatory molecules, contributing to tissue damage and aging phenotypes. The clinical purpose of these compounds is to clear this toxic cellular burden to promote tissue rejuvenation.
