Senescence Reversal

Meaning

Senescence Reversal is a highly ambitious, emerging concept in longevity science and cellular biology that refers to the therapeutic strategies aimed at eliminating or functionally reprogramming senescent cells, thereby restoring youthful tissue function and mitigating age-related disease. Senescent cells are damaged cells that have permanently exited the cell cycle but remain metabolically active, secreting a pro-inflammatory cocktail known as the Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype (SASP). The clinical goal is not merely to slow aging, but to actively clear these dysfunctional cells, which are significant drivers of systemic inflammation and endocrine gland decline.
