Semantic Interoperability

Meaning

Semantic Interoperability refers to the ability of disparate healthcare information systems to exchange data and interpret that data with shared, unambiguous meaning at the point of use. This goes beyond mere data transport, ensuring that clinical concepts, measurements, and patient attributes are understood consistently across different platforms, regardless of their underlying technical architecture or data representation. It ensures that a glucose reading from one device is precisely understood by an electronic health record system from a different vendor.
