Self-Governance in Physiology

Meaning

This is a conceptual term referring to the intrinsic, homeostatic capacity of the human body’s regulatory systems—such as the endocrine, nervous, and immune systems—to maintain internal stability and adapt to external stressors with minimal external intervention. Self-governance is maximized when all physiological feedback loops, like the HPA and HPT axes, are robust, sensitive, and operate without chronic dysregulation. The clinical goal is to restore and support this innate ability, allowing the body to manage its own complex internal environment efficiently.
