Self-Emulsifying Drug Delivery System

Meaning

A Self-Emulsifying Drug Delivery System (SEDDS) is a specialized pharmaceutical formulation. This isotropic mixture of oil, surfactant, and co-surfactant spontaneously forms a fine oil-in-water emulsion upon contact with gastrointestinal fluids. Its primary purpose is to enhance the solubility and subsequent absorption of poorly water-soluble drug compounds, a common challenge in oral pharmacotherapy.
