Selective Modulators

Meaning

Selective Modulators are a class of pharmaceutical agents or bioactive compounds designed to interact with a specific receptor type in a tissue-selective manner, eliciting agonistic (activating) effects in some tissues and antagonistic (blocking) effects in others. These compounds, such as Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs) or Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs), are engineered to leverage the heterogeneity of receptor expression to provide therapeutic benefits while minimizing unwanted side effects in non-target tissues. Their clinical utility lies in their ability to precisely fine-tune hormonal signaling.
