Sedentary Behavior

Meaning

Sedentary behavior describes any waking behavior characterized by low energy expenditure, specifically 1.5 metabolic equivalents (METs) or less, performed in a sitting, reclining, or lying posture. This physiological state is distinct from physical inactivity, which refers to insufficient moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. It represents a significant component of daily energy expenditure.
