Secretagogue Synergy

Meaning

Secretagogue synergy describes the principle and therapeutic application of combining two or more secretagogue compounds to achieve a potentiated, non-additive effect on the secretion of an endogenous hormone. A secretagogue is a substance that stimulates the secretion of another substance. The goal of synergy is to maximize the pulsatile, physiological release of a target hormone, such as growth hormone, while minimizing the required dose of each individual agent and avoiding receptor desensitization.
