Sebocyte Proliferation

Meaning

The rapid and increased rate of cell division and growth of sebocytes, which are the specialized epithelial cells responsible for producing sebum within the sebaceous glands of the skin. Excessive sebocyte proliferation leads to glandular hypertrophy and increased sebum production, often contributing to conditions like acne vulgaris. This process is highly sensitive to hormonal signals, particularly androgens.
