SCN Master Pacemaker

Meaning

The SCN Master Pacemaker, or Suprachiasmatic Nucleus, is a tiny, paired structure located in the hypothalamus of the brain that serves as the central orchestrator of the body’s circadian rhythms. It generates and coordinates the approximately 24-hour cycles of nearly all physiological processes, including the sleep-wake cycle, hormone secretion patterns, core body temperature, and peripheral metabolic rate. This nucleus is fundamentally responsible for synchronizing the body’s internal time with the external world, acting as the ultimate conductor of the biological clock orchestra. Its proper, robust function is non-negotiable for systemic health and resilience.
