SCN Master Clock

Meaning

The SCN Master Clock, or Suprachiasmatic Nucleus, is a small but critically important pair of nuclei situated in the hypothalamus of the brain, functioning as the central, self-sustaining pacemaker for the body’s entire circadian rhythm system. This master clock synchronizes the peripheral clocks in all other organs and tissues, ensuring the precise 24-hour timing of all physiological processes, including the sleep-wake cycle and the diurnal hormone secretion patterns. It is the core determinant of an organism’s chronotype and overall temporal biology.
