Sclerosing Lipogranuloma

Meaning

Sclerosing lipogranuloma is a rare, non-malignant inflammatory condition characterized by the progressive formation of hard, fibrotic masses—granulomas—within subcutaneous fat tissue, typically resulting from a localized foreign body reaction to exogenous lipid substances. In the context of hormonal health, this condition is most often clinically observed as a complication following the injection of non-medical grade or unapproved oil-based substances, sometimes erroneously used for body contouring or illicit hormone delivery. The resulting tissue reaction involves fat necrosis and subsequent dense scar tissue formation, which can cause significant pain, disfigurement, and local circulatory impairment. Clinical recognition and differentiation from malignant lesions are paramount for appropriate management.
