Schedule III Drugs

Meaning

Schedule III Drugs are a specific category of controlled substances, as formally defined by the U.S. Controlled Substances Act, that possess a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence relative to the substances classified in the more restrictive Schedules I and II. Clinically, these medications, which prominently include certain anabolic steroids and some combination products containing limited amounts of narcotics, have currently accepted medical uses in treatment. Their prescribing and dispensing are subject to specific federal and state regulatory requirements designed to mitigate the inherent risk of misuse, diversion, and dependence.
