Scalp Microinflammation

Meaning

Scalp Microinflammation refers to a chronic, subclinical, low-grade inflammatory state occurring within the connective tissues of the scalp, specifically localized around the hair follicles. This subtle, persistent inflammation is not always clinically visible as overt redness or scaling but is biochemically characterized by the sustained presence of inflammatory cytokines and immune cell infiltration in the dermal papilla area. Scalp microinflammation is a key pathological factor implicated in the miniaturization of hair follicles and the progressive development of various forms of non-scarring hair loss, including androgenetic alopecia.
