Satiety Hormones

Meaning

Satiety hormones are a class of peptide hormones primarily secreted by the gastrointestinal tract and adipose tissue in response to food intake, acting as key signals to the brain to promote feelings of fullness and terminate eating. These essential metabolic messengers, including Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), Peptide YY (PYY), and Cholecystokinin (CCK), are central to the physiological regulation of appetite and energy homeostasis. Dysfunction in the signaling of these hormones is a significant contributor to the pathophysiology of obesity and metabolic syndrome.
