SASP Suppression

Meaning

The clinical and molecular strategy aimed at inhibiting or reducing the production and secretion of the Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype (SASP) by senescent cells. SASP is a complex mixture of pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and matrix metalloproteinases that drives chronic systemic inflammation and tissue dysfunction. Suppression is a key longevity intervention to mitigate the detrimental effects of cellular aging.
