SASP (Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype)

Meaning

SASP, or Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype, refers to the complex array of bioactive molecules secreted by senescent cells. These molecules include pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, and proteases, which collectively alter the tissue microenvironment. This distinct cellular state emerges when cells undergo irreversible growth arrest, often in response to stress or damage.
