Sample Integrity

Meaning

Sample integrity is the clinical concept that a biological specimen remains in a condition that accurately reflects the patient’s physiological state at the time of collection, ensuring the reliability of subsequent laboratory testing. For hormonal assays, maintaining integrity means preventing degradation, contamination, or alteration of the analyte concentration during handling, processing, and storage. Compromised sample integrity can lead to erroneous diagnostic conclusions and inappropriate clinical management.
