Saline Infusion Sonohysterography

Meaning

Saline Infusion Sonohysterography (SIS), also known as sonohysterogram, is a specialized ultrasound technique used to evaluate the uterine cavity and endometrium. This procedure involves instilling sterile saline solution into the uterus to gently distend the cavity, allowing for clearer visualization of the endometrial lining and detection of subtle intrauterine abnormalities. It is a high-resolution, non-invasive method often used in the workup for infertility or abnormal uterine bleeding.
