Rotterdam Criteria

Meaning

The Rotterdam Criteria are a widely accepted set of diagnostic guidelines used in clinical endocrinology to establish the diagnosis of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). These criteria require the presence of at least two out of three specific clinical features: oligo- or anovulation, clinical or biochemical signs of hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovaries visualized on ultrasound. The application of these standardized criteria ensures diagnostic consistency across different clinical settings, which is crucial for accurately identifying and managing this common endocrine disorder. This framework helps clinicians differentiate PCOS from other conditions presenting with similar symptoms.
