Risk-Based Assessment

Meaning

Risk-Based Assessment is a systematic, quantitative methodology used in public health and toxicology to evaluate the potential for adverse health effects from exposure to a specific environmental or chemical agent. This approach involves four steps: hazard identification, dose-response assessment, exposure assessment, and risk characterization. Unlike hazard-based regulation, this method calculates the probability of harm under specific, realistic conditions of human exposure. It is a fundamental tool for regulatory agencies to set safe exposure limits for endocrine-disrupting chemicals and other toxins.
