RFRP-3 Inhibition

Meaning

RFRP-3 inhibition is a targeted neuroendocrine strategy involving the pharmacological blockade of the activity of RF-amide-related peptide-3 (RFRP-3), a neuropeptide known to suppress the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis. By inhibiting this inhibitory signal, clinicians can effectively disinhibit the release of GnRH and subsequent gonadotropins, leading to a potential increase in endogenous sex hormone production. This approach is being investigated as a novel method for treating certain forms of hypogonadism.
