Reverse T3

Meaning

Reverse T3, or rT3, is an inactive metabolite of thyroxine (T4), the primary thyroid hormone. Structurally similar to active triiodothyronine (T3), rT3 lacks capacity to bind effectively to thyroid hormone receptors or elicit a biological response. Its formation is a crucial pathway for T4 deactivation, preventing cellular overstimulation.
