Resting Metabolic Rate

Meaning

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) quantifies the energy expenditure of an individual at rest, in a thermoneutral environment, following fasting and physical inactivity. It represents the minimum caloric requirement to sustain vital physiological functions, including respiration, circulation, cellular production, and maintaining body temperature. This baseline energy use accounts for the majority of daily caloric expenditure.
