Resolvins

Meaning

Resolvins are a distinct class of specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) that are naturally biosynthesized in the body from omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, specifically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Their critical and unique biological function is to actively initiate and complete the resolution phase of inflammation, effectively shifting the body from a state of active inflammatory response back to physiological homeostasis. Unlike traditional anti-inflammatory agents that merely suppress signals, resolvins promote the active clearance of inflammatory debris and facilitate tissue repair.
