Resistance Training Hormonal Response

Meaning

The Resistance Training Hormonal Response describes the acute and chronic changes in the secretion and action of various endocrine factors that occur immediately following and in adaptation to structured weightlifting or strength-based exercise. This response is characterized by transient elevations in anabolic hormones, such as testosterone, growth hormone (GH), and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), as well as catabolic hormones like cortisol. The magnitude and pattern of this hormonal flux are highly dependent on the training variables, including intensity, volume, and rest periods. This physiological response is fundamental to the mechanisms of muscle hypertrophy and strength adaptation.
