Resensitization

Meaning

Resensitization refers to the physiological process by which cells, tissues, or receptor systems regain their normal responsiveness to a specific stimulus, often a hormone or neurotransmitter, after a period of reduced sensitivity or desensitization. This restoration typically follows prolonged exposure to high concentrations of the activating substance, which can lead to receptor downregulation or impaired signaling pathways. The goal is to restore optimal cellular communication and function.
