Reproductive Resilience

Meaning

Reproductive resilience is the biological capacity of an individual’s reproductive system to maintain normal function, adapt effectively to physiological stressors, and recover from transient perturbations, thereby preserving fertility and hormonal cyclicity over the lifespan. This concept extends beyond basic fertility to encompass the robustness of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis and the health of gametes and reproductive tissues. High reproductive resilience is indicative of robust hormonal homeostasis and the ability to buffer the negative impacts of environmental, metabolic, or psychological challenges. It is a key indicator of long-term hormonal and overall health.
