Renal Sodium Channels

Meaning

Renal Sodium Channels are specialized integral membrane proteins located primarily in the epithelial cells of the kidney tubules, particularly in the distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct. These channels facilitate the controlled movement of sodium ions from the tubular fluid back into the bloodstream, a process critical for regulating total body sodium balance, extracellular fluid volume, and systemic blood pressure. Their function is tightly regulated by key mineralocorticoid hormones.
