Renal Plasma Flow

Meaning

Renal Plasma Flow (RPF) is the clinical measure of the volume of blood plasma that passes through the kidneys per unit of time, typically expressed in milliliters per minute. This physiological parameter is essential for assessing kidney function, as it directly relates to the rate at which waste products are filtered and cleared from the blood. Hormonal factors, such as angiotensin II and prostaglandins, are critical regulators of the afferent and efferent arteriolar tone, thereby modulating the RPF.
