Renal Impairment

Meaning

Renal Impairment is a clinical condition characterized by a measurable reduction in the kidney’s capacity to perform its essential functions, including the efficient filtration of metabolic waste products, the precise regulation of electrolyte concentrations, and the maintenance of fluid homeostasis. This physiological decline is typically quantified by a decrease in the estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) and an elevation in serum creatinine and urea levels. Impairment can range in severity, profoundly impacting the body’s overall endocrine balance and requiring careful clinical management to prevent systemic complications.
