Renal Function

Meaning

Renal function refers to the collective physiological processes performed by the kidneys, which are essential for maintaining homeostasis within the body. These critical functions include the filtration of blood to remove metabolic waste products and excess fluid, the regulation of electrolyte balance, and the maintenance of acid-base equilibrium. Furthermore, the kidneys serve an endocrine role by producing hormones such as erythropoietin and renin, which regulate red blood cell production and blood pressure, respectively.
