REM Density Metrics

Meaning

REM Density Metrics are sophisticated quantitative measures used in advanced sleep analysis to assess the frequency and intensity of rapid eye movements (REMs) during the Rapid Eye Movement sleep stage. These metrics provide a more granular and physiologically relevant assessment of REM sleep quality than simply measuring the total duration of the stage. Clinically, REM density is thought to correlate with the intensity of brain activity during this phase, which is critical for emotional regulation, memory consolidation, and the cyclical regulation of various neuroendocrine axes.
