Relugolix

Meaning

Relugolix is a synthetic, non-peptide, and orally bioavailable pharmaceutical agent that functions as a potent antagonist of the Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) receptor. Clinically, it is used to rapidly and reversibly suppress the pituitary-gonadal axis, thereby reducing the production and circulating levels of sex hormones, specifically testosterone and estradiol. This drug is utilized in the targeted management of hormone-sensitive clinical conditions, including prostate cancer, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis, by inducing a state of controlled medical castration.
